Enabling Cookies and JavaScript

The Chapter Standards site requires that cookies and JavaScript be enabled on advisors' and students' computers, and that a Version 5 or later browser revision be used (for example, Netscape 6 or Internet Explorer 5). Earlier versions of browsers may work well.

These instructions help you enable cookies and JavaScript based on the type of browser you use.

Enabling cookies

- Internet Explorer™ for Windows®:

Go to the Tools menu for Internet Explorer 5 (select the View menu if you have Internet Explorer 4). Choose Internet Options.... Choose the Advanced tab. Go to the bottom of the Security section to select "Always accept cookies." If you're concerned about cookies and security, you may not wish to always accept cookies. Instead, you may wish to be prompted when a site requests to set a cookie.

- Internet Explorer™ for Macintosh®:

From the Edit menu choose Preferences. Underneath the Receiving Files option, choose "Cookies." From the panel on the right, choose "Never ask" from the pull-down menu. If you're concerned about cookies and security, you may not wish to always accept cookies. Instead, you may wish to be prompted when a site requests to set a cookie.

- Netscape Navigator™:

Choose the Edit menu and select Preferences. Then choose Advanced. Select "Accept all cookies." If you're concerned about cookies and security, you may not wish to always accept cookies. Instead, you may wish to be prompted when a site requests to set a cookie.

Enabling JavaScript

- Internet Explorer™ for Windows®:

Select the Tools menu (for IE4, select the View menu) and then choose Internet Options.... Choose the Advanced tab and scroll down to the Java VM section. Make sure the following items are selected: "Java console enabled (requires restart)" and "Java JIT Compiler Enabled." If they are not selected, please select them.

- Internet Explorer™ for Macintosh®:

Choose the Edit menu and then select Preferences. Within "Web Browser" choose "Web Content." In the right panel, choose "Enable Scripting."

- Netscape Navigator™:

Choose the Edit menu and then select Preferences. Select Advanced, and then choose "Enable JavaScript."
